Prof. Dr. Klaus-Peter Koller is Head of Scientific Networking at Aventis , Germany , a leading pharmaceutical company of the Sanofi-Aventis Group. He is a molecular biologist with a comprehensive track in academic and industrial research in microbiology, gene expression, target identification and in functional genomics.

He was also president of the German Society for General and Applied and Microbiology (VAAM) and serves now in the board as special adviser for industrial relations. His current activities as member of the board of the German Association for Promoting Human Genome Research ( Förderverein Humangenomforschung und Biotechnologie e.V. ) focus on the promotion of human genome exploration. At the same time, Klaus-Peter Koller is member of the evaluation committee for “BioFuture”, a program initiated by the German Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF) fostering the development of biotechnological research in Germany. He is a member of the evaluation committee for the BMBF program GenoMik and serves the BMBF as an adviser for several funding programs. He recently jointed evaluation committees of EU FP6 programs. In 2004 he became an appointed member of the Senate Commission on Genetic Research of the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Klaus-Peter Koller, who was nominated Professor for Industrial Microbiology at the University of Frankfurt in 1998, carried out research for several years at Hoechst AG and Hoechst Marion Roussel ( HM R), which were predecessor companies of Aventis. Amongst other things, he was Team leader for development of recombinant proteins for commercial processes and for Head of Gene Expression ( HM R, 1996), Spokesman of the Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Microbiology (Hoechst AG, 1993) and, among others, Team Leader for target identification in pathogenic bacteria. Klaus-Peter Koller was a postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Dr. L. Bogorad at Harvard University (1979). He received his Ph.D. on biliprotein composition and localization in Rhodella violacea at the University of Marburg (1979).
