My group studies at a molecular level host-pathogen interactions between intracellular bacterial pathogens and eukaryotic cells . Using the Gram-negative pathogen Salmonella as a model, we investigate the regulatory circuits that modulate the bacterial replication rate within the infected host cell. Genome-wide expression analyses are used to identify key factors, of both pathogen and host cell origin, which control growth, persistence or killing of intracellular Salmonella . Proteomics techniques are also applied to identify novel cell-surface proteins of the Gram-positive pathogen Listeria required for colonization of host eukaryotic cell.

Our laboratory of ‘Microbial Pathogenesis' is located in the Department of Microbial Biotechnology at the National Center for Biotechnology (CNB) (http://www.cnb.uam.es) . This Centre belongs to the ‘Consejo Superior de Investigaciones CientÌficas (CSIC)' (http://www.csic.es) , the Spanish Government Institution for Research.
