Researchers Database

You have entered the IISP: Interactive Information System on Pathogenomics

If you would like to insert information about your research or research group, please click to the following link to download the form. After filling it out, please send back to m.karrasch@fz-juelich.de or g.gebreselassie@fz-juelich.de.

Here you will find information about Research groups in the PathoGenoMics fields from the ERA-NET partner countries (Austria, Finland, France, Hungary, Israel, Latvia, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain).
This information is supposed to support cooperation between researchers from different European countries
and thus enhance the development of a European Research Area for PathoGenoMics .

The following information is available and can be searched for:

  • researcher names
  • Institution of the respective researcher, city and country of his/her institution
  • Contact data of the researcher (address, phone, email)
  • Research topics and studied microorganisms of the researcher
  • Special techniques applied by the researcher
  • Potential cooperation topics suggested by the researcher

If you have any comments/questions or if you would like to add some information, please contact m.karrasch@fz-juelich.de

Research Topics:
Major scientific research fields 1- studying the bacterial membrane permeability, including genetic, functional, molecular and structural aspects : regulation and adaptation of membrane permeability, expression of porins and membrane transporters, functional domains of membrane proteins, .. 2- deciphering the relationships between membrane permeability and drug susceptibility : clinical aspects of resistance by modification of bacterial permeability (prevalence, evolution, ..), drug efflux pumps (expression, activity, ..), molecular bases of drug transport factors (genetic and external) involved in efflux pump expression 3- investigating new molecules blocking or bypassing the drug resistance mechanism : inhibitors of efflux pumps (synthesis of chemosensitizers) synthesis and activity of membranotrope compounds, analyses of new targets and new molecules, developing new probes for diagnosis

Organisms studied:
  • Campylobacter coli
  • Campylobacter jejuni
  • Campylobacter lari
  • Klebsiella

Special methods / technologies:
expression and purification of membrane proteins (monomeric and multimeric proteins), genomic and proteomic reconstitution and analyses of protein complexes, evaluation of membranotropic activities (pore-forming, channel), synthesis and purification of chemosensitizers, inhibitors, ..

Suggestions for potential research cooperations:
1- Drug efflux pumps and bacterial resistance :
including genetic, functional, molecular and structural aspects, diagnosis and inhibition of efflux pumps
2- Bacterial adaptation and membrane permeability
including porins and transporters
1- Drug
