|The goals of the group are to understand at the molecular level: (i) the interplay between microorganisms and the immune system of the lung; (ii) the modifications of the bacterial surface to interact with Toll-like and NOD receptors, (iii) the mechanisms of resistance against antimicrobial peptides. Ongoing research projects are: (i) Genomic analysis of the adaptations of microbial pathogens to survive in the lung (ii) Molecular study of the cellular systems involve in the detection of pathogens (iii) Analysis of the effect of smoking on the activation of the lung innate immune system (iv) Use of antimicrobial peptides to boost innate immunity and to clear infections|
